Senior Mechanical Engineer - xEVAS (Onsite)

We are currently seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to support our xEVAS space suit program within the Intelligent Sensing & Space Systems Business Unit. This individual will have accountability for alignment of the xEVAS technical requirements and integration issues and definition of the overall xEVAS space suit level (between partners) and between sub-systems.  He/she is accountable for ensuring customer requirements are understood, our systems can meet all system requirements, and are properly implemented.

The person in this role will be accountable for ensuring solid planning (good technical baseline and accurate schedules) throughout the design, development, and V&V phase of the program and is accountable to resolve technical conflicts and issues, and to ensure the development and maintenance of technical risk analysis methods and gap closure plans.  This candidate will need to have familiarity with the decomposition of requirements, development and procurement, experience interfacing with vendors to develop solutions, researching HW, support the creation of hardware drawings and Bills of Materials as appropriate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Key engineering interface with Collins xEVAS partners including development of plans for the advancement of products to meet future customer needs including support of design and development of space suit technology
  • Review and approval of formal program technical communication and documentation to customers
  • Primary customer technical interface for the xEVAS program
  • Accountable for schedule and risk management performance
  • Accountable for providing technical direction multiple integrated project/product line teams to execute product line plans
  • Accountable for analyzing problems and to develop recommendations to modify project plans to mitigate and resolve issues.
  • Responsible for after action review of major program losses and report out to senior leadership
  • Ensure adherence to international trade compliance polices and procedures
  • Ensure the protection of Collins Aerospace and safeguard of customer and supplier/partner intellectual property

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong aerospace engineering background with technical knowledge in environmental control and thermal control systems, and/or thrust vector control systems preferred
  • Strong customer and internal stakeholder relationships
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across the organization and various disciplines, including Engineering, Quality, Business Development, and Operations
  • Ability to communicate complex technical subjects with clarity and precision
  • Strategic thinking with a bias for action
