The Raytheon Specialty Aperture Mechanical Design Section is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer for our McKinney, TX location. The candidate will reside within the Advanced EO & RF Mechanical Engineering Department and perform mechanical design and documentation of Antennas, Radomes, Radio Frequency (RF) Sensors and Supporting Electronics and Sub-Systems. The candidate will be responsible for design concept development, mechanical modeling, mechanical RF design, requirements development, and trade studies in addition to hardware design and documentation. The candidate may be responsible for directing the work of small teams of mechanical engineers within a broader integrated product team (IPT) or leading small internal research and development (IRAD) projects.
The candidate shall follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program and functional leadership to ensure that overall design goals are met. The candidate is expected to have experience in the use of solid-modeling CAD software and have multi-year experience in advanced surface modeling to support electrical analysis of radar cross-section (RCS) signature. The candidate is also expected to be experienced in the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for design documentation and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA). The candidate will be responsible for developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems. The candidate will provide mechanical outlines, construction details, connector selection and specifications, mechanical and assembly drawings, as well as oversee electrical layouts and the technical data package. Familiarity with ANSI drawing standards is required. The candidate will be also responsible for meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for their work products. The candidate will work with limited supervision while exercising some latitude in defining the technical objectives of the assignment. The position will require frequent interaction with electrical engineers, program management, external personnel, and suppliers. Periodic travel, up to 25%, may be required as needed to support off-site activities.
Basic Qualifications:
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of composite and radio frequency products for military and aerospace applications.
• Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field.
• Solid modeling experience (preferably CREO).
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of GD&T, ANSI drawing standards, and first order analysis techniques.
• Experience with polymer matrix composites for radome applications.
• Understanding of advanced surface modeling to support electrical analysis of radar cross-section (RCS) signature.
• Ability to travel periodically to suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and customer sites to support programs (up to 25%).
• Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems.
• Active U.S. Secret security clearance and special access clearable.
Desired Qualifications:
• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• 5+ years of industry experience in the design and manufacturing of electronics packaging for military and aerospace applications.
• Experience with testing of electronics to military environments (MIL-STD-810).
• Experience with radar absorbing materials.
• Finite element analysis (preferably Abaqus).
• Excellent leadership skills and project management skills.
• Demonstrated presentation and communication skills.
This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
