The Communication Products Engineering Department in Mission Systems has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This Engineer will support the electronics packaging design and development of high performance communication products, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links designed for use in various ground, airborne, and space applications.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Use and apply mechanical engineering principles and techniques to design, develop, document, verify, and support communication products.
- Perform mechanical packaging design to meet challenging environmental requirements.
- Collaborate on development of circuit card designs (profile, stack up, thermal/vibration considerations)
- Lead prototype build and verification and pre-qualification testing within a cross functional team
- Work closely with a multidiscipline team to ensure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle, including supporting integration, testing and qualification of the final product.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and five years of prior relevant experience OR Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum three years of experience OR In the absence of a degree, nine years of relevant experience is required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a U.S. Secret Clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD). Includes working knowledge of model creation, interrogation with CAD tools like NX or Solidworks to support mechanical designs.
- Experience with MIL-STD-810 and/or DO-160 environmental requirements
- Familiarity of electronic product packaging requirements
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and associated analysis methodologies
- Familiarity with machined and sheet metal manufacturing methodologies
- Knowledge in the area of design for low cost, manufacturability and small volume packaging
- Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with Agile development methodologies, including planning, tracking, and managing hardware development tasks in JIRA, is a plus.
