Department Overview:

The Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering team has a challenging opportunity for an expert Heat Transfer Senior Engineer to perform thermal analysis of gas turbine bearing compartments, gearbox and oil/air service tubes/ducts under varying conditions of aircraft performance envelope.

You will be responsible for performing thermal analysis working with a team of MSEN thermal and fluid mechanics engineers, collaborating with other engineering disciplines and supporting multiple commercial/military programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of thermal analysis tools and processes covering conductive, convective and radiative modes of heat transfer

  • Understanding of design/analysis inputs from across engineering disciplines

  • Use CFD-based thermal boundary conditions for higher fidelity model predictions,

  • Apply statistical methods to thermal analytics to improve confidence level in model predictions,

  • Influence and improve thermal design aspects of MSEN components,

  • Mentor less-experienced engineers in Heat Transfer team on technical analysis approaches.

  • Integrate design/analytics lessons learned across commercial and military engine lines and incorporate them into thermal analytics process

  • Contribute to Engineering Standard Work (ESW) updates

  • Actively participate in engineering investigations using sound fault tree and root-cause processes

  • Demonstrate effective presentation skills to communicate learning across engineering disciplines and leadership team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in gas turbine engineering OR an Advanced Degree with 3+ years of experience in gas turbine engineering

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering with a focus on fluid-thermal sciences a plus

  • Experience with a range of modern thermo-fluid analytical tools used in the gas turbine industry, including ANSYS Classic/Workbench and Fluent/CFX.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and OneNote.

  • Prior experience in aircraft engine lube system design/analysis

  • Ability to prioritize and support multiple projects with contending priorities.

  • Possess strong organization and communication skills.

  • Positive attitude with a strong teamwork competency that allows you to quickly build positive relationships within our team and our customers.

  • An active US government security clearance or the ability to obtain one is a plus.
