Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney Mikro Systems, is designing ceramic cores and tooling for turbine airfoil castings to be manufactured at P&W’s state-of-the-art Ashville, North Carolina foundry. Mirko Systems uses a manufacturing process that produces intricate multi-walled ceramic cores. As development progresses, we need innovative ideas to address unique challenges created by fully-featured ceramic bodies. The Mikro team is seeking a talented Tool Designer who can think out-out-of-the-box and provide tooling solutions to address the unique changes of the complex geometry.

Responsibilities:

  • Design injection dies, casting dies, assembly fixtures, gages and other tooling used to support the manufacturing process of ceramic cores for turbine airfoils; ensure all designs are high in quality and accurate.
  • Assist manufacturing engineering team in project development and investigations related to tooling.
  • Utilize CAD software, specifically Siemens NX to prepare tooling designs and blueprints for the aerospace product line.
  • Utilize CAD software, SolidWorks to prepare tooling designs and blueprints for other product lines.
  • Interact with tooling vendors: interact with manufacturing engineering team on design changes and/or specifications to ensure effective product design and implementation.
  • Provide Operations support and assist with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) process; support and/or participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) events and CORE activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in related field and minim 3 years’ experience.
  • Experience with 3D modeling/drafting software Siemens NX and SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • US Citizenship required due to government contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques (Siemens NX or SolidWorks).
  • Drafting knowledge to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.
  • Turbine Blade / Vane knowledge.
  • Knowledge of investment casting and molding tooling design.
  • Understanding of how Integrated Product Teams function.
