Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Travel to Seattle, Washington is required 1 to 4 times per year to support customer audits.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Executes objectives for requirements management, reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, evaluation measurements, and other disciplines for large or complex projects.
  • Monitors the cost, effectiveness, and reliability of activities and recommend modifications to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and ensure that standards are met.
  • Manages work processes, optimization methods, and risk management tools for large or complex projects.
  • Researches and evaluates investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization's systems products and services.
  • Provides analysis for the decomposition of customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements, and develops verification criteria and plans for the requirements.
  • Manages configuration process, performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs architectural exploration.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field and at least 5 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role. In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field and at least 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role would be acceptable.
  • At least 3 years of experience with the application of certification objectives defined in DO-178, DO-160, DO-254 and/or ARP-4754A for avionics systems
  • At least 2 years of experience with developing software in accordance to DO-178B/C
  • Demonstrable experience with working in all phases of system, software and/or hardware engineering development lifecycles
  • Demonstrable experience with audits performed by governmental agency certification authorities such as the FAA or EASA
  • Demonstrable experience working with a team that is geographically diverse

Demonstrable experience in mentoring junior engineers in the areas of certification and process compliance
