Senior Embedded Systems Engineer - Space Systems (Hybrid)
Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
Our team is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated candidate to join our Space Systems team as an Electrical Systems Engineer. This position supports the design, development, verification & validation, and operational support of the next generation spacesuit and crewed surface vehicles. You will serve as the technical owner for electrical hardware system(s) and/or subsystem(s), working with cross-functional teams to develop & deliver assured space solutions enabling Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) and Human Surface Mobility (HSM).
Primary Responsibilities:
- System decomposition & requirement capture to align to Concept of Operations
- Identification & execution of trade studies & analysis supporting system definition
- System modeling, analysis, & optimization
- System interoperability & interface definition
- System integration & test
- Definition & execution of system verification, validation, & qualification
- System test data analysis, & reporting
- Earned Value Management or Control Account Management
- Product Requirements/specifications definition for hardware/software development
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
- Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering
- Significant experience in development of mission or safety critical clean sheet system of systems, systems, or products
- 5+ years experience developing embedded solutions for space applications
- Working knowledge of full life-cycle system development
- Experience on hardware development program
- Electrical system modeling/simulation, including steady state & transient analysis
- Ability to effectively collaborate on complex technical scope & obtain design approach consensus
- Ability to iteratively develop solutions, define & propose design approaches, and collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) & across stakeholders
- Data science & analysis
- Experience identifying & quantifying key performance metrics of systems
- Desire to help others grow & excel
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent writing, communication, & math skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of ARP4754 or similar standards
- Relevant hardware experience: digital and/or analog circuit card design, databuses, motors/motor controllers, actuators, sensors, power supplies, FPGAs, microprocessors, batteries in safety or mission critical applications, displays, communications systems & datalinks, development hardware qualification testing
- Relevant systems experience: data-driven system decomposition & development, requirements development, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, system simulation & modeling, development of safety and/or mission critical systems, system qualification, flight test experience, impacts of radiation on electrical systems
- Avionics experience
- Experience with electrical test plan development, test equipment
- Experience developing & negotiating means of compliance with regulators, customers, or industry standards groups
- Experience with bid and proposal efforts, full life-cycle hardware development, cost impact analysis, process improvement
- Technical ownership of system(s) of moderate to major complexity
- Experience leading peer reviews, assessing technical debt, and identifying contingency plans
- Experience with Python, SysML, Cameo System Modeler, Jira, Jama, Matlab, Simulink, LabView
