Job Description:

The Alternate Work Week (AWW) Design engineer will have ownership and accountability for all production related Design activities primarily covering Compressor and Turbine Rotors across Military and Commercial programs.  This an excellent opportunity for increased hardware proficiency across numerous engine platforms as well Cold Section Engineering, Hot Section Engineering, Mechanical Systems and Externals Engineering part families.  There is also the additional opportunity for proficiency expansion in rotors, cases, blades, externals, and mechanical system components.  AWW work shift is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 6AM to 6PM. This is a highly visible and excellent career opportunity that will provide exposure across the Engineering, Quality and Operations organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing close support to the traditional ESTO (Engineering Support to Operations) Engineering team, suppliers, and engine production delivery centers with innovative and focused solutions that meet production goals and requirements.
  • Coordinating, cooperating and communicating with Ops and Quality by providing Engineering updates to issues by actively participating in production and quality calls over the AWW shift. This also requires communicating effectively to support the AWW and Standard shift changes
  • Resolving Quality Notifications (QN’s) while also eliminating repeat analysis through proactively addressing repeated incidents
  • Increase visibility within Component integrated product team (CIPTs) by being main point of contact for all QN activity during the AWW Shift and by managing out-sourced technical quality and growing outsource technical proficiency.
  • Support rapid closure of staff delivery order/field product notification (SDO/FPN) investigations and coordinate evaluation and response to supplier requests for information (eSRI).

Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Basic Qualifications:

  • ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with 5 years of gas turbine engineering experience, or an advanced degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 3 years of gas turbine engineering experience
  • Proficient in ANSYS or equivalent finite element analysis (FEA) structural analyses programs
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific knowledge in engine Rotor design and Non-conformance dispositions with a broad understanding of hardware, blueprints, and manufacturing methods
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and process controls.
  • Working proficiency with Teamcenter, SAP, Unigraphics, Unix and Visual Basic
  • Ability to work across functions, organizations, and all levels of management while focusing on results and driving tasks to completion.
  • Clear and concise communicator with emphasis on tailoring to appropriate audience.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks across various hardware and engine programs with a demonstrated background of working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
