Collins Aerospace is seeking to recruit a Contracts Specialist.  This is a hybrid role based at our Plymouth, facility in Devon, UK.

Role Overview:

This position is for an experienced contracts professional, working autonomously. Creates proposals, reviews, negotiates, drafts, and completes contracts. Provides guidance on warranty and contract administration.  Monitors, analyses, and coaches less experienced staff. Responsible for process improvements to enhance department function and performance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviews incoming customer requests for proposals, identifies proposal requirements, reviews terms and conditions for acceptability and compliance with company policies and procedures, assists in proposal development as required and participates in securing required management approval for submittal of proposals to customers. 

  • Ensure contractual compliance with all laws and regulations (including government specifications where applicable), and adherence to Delegation of Authority and approval requirements for proposals and contractual actions.

  • Review contractual terms and conditions for their acceptability, as well as, assessing risk and impact to the proposal utilising the company resources including legal, operations, and pricing, as necessary.

  • Provide alternate terms and conditions to Customer. 

  • Operates in accordance with company policies and practices, and in compliance with accepted business ethics. 

  • Conducts contract negotiation and management of major contracts. 

  • Responsible for negotiating, structuring, and/or administrating contractual documents that establish business relationships with customers and/or partners.

  • Works with business development, project managers, finance and service teams as well as the legal department to structure contracts.

  • Provides contract status and assistance to the program manager, functional areas, and management. 

  • Takes proper action to close out the contract in accordance with applicable procedures at the conclusion of all activity. 

  • Assures the timely communication of contract information to appropriate persons and maintains complete and accurate contract files. 

  • Acts as principal interface with internal/external customers on contractual matters.

  • Takes necessary action or coordinates action to resolve any contractual problems with the contract execution team in a timely manner. 

  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

  • Participates in determining objectives of assignment.

  • Plans schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

  • May provide guidance and coaching to lower-level contracts employees.

  • Lead and support audits, as appropriate, with internal and external audit teams and agencies to support contract-related activities and verify compliance.

  • Manages historical legal records.

Basic Experience:

  • Extensive experience with complex Contracts (UK and International) with strong knowledge of contract terms

  • Experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating contractual documents and providing succinct reports and status updates to the business

  • Strong commercial awareness, business principles and governing law

  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills

  • An ability to respond to tasks with tenacity and flexibility, whilst working cross functionally in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Strong communicator and relationship builder with both internal and external customers

  • An ability to remain calm under pressure and collaborate with others

  • Positive, self-motivated and the ability to work independently

  • A willingness and ability to travel occasionally

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a MOD security clearance.  Candidate selected may be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

  • Must be a U.K. Citizen

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, high impact/visible environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience of contracting in the Defence sector

  • Previous experience of contracting with the UK MOD and/or US DoD

  • Accreditation in Commercial and Supply Chain management

  • Strong record of problem solving and dispute resolution

  • Experience of working with international suppliers or customers

  • Awareness of Data Protection and other relevant commercial and contract legislation

  • Familiarity with business process management tools (IPDS, SAP or similar) and the competitive bidding process

  • SAP working knowledge:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and proven relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, demonstrable and relevant experience is required
