The Aero Thermal Fluids (ATF) organization is responsible for the functional aerodynamic and thermal design, analysis, and performance evaluation of Pratt & Whitney propulsion systems for commercial and military aircraft engines.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Combustor Aerothermal Fluids Engineer with expertise within combustion aerodynamics, and possesses strong technical, problem solving, communication and leadership skills to join our team and be part of continuing Pratt & Whitney's industry leadership in current and next generation propulsion systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead aero-thermal efforts as part of a multi-disciplinary team to design, analyze, integrate, test, and validate various aspects of combustor module design: flow path, fuel injection, and cooling architecture.
- Work with internal and external customers to meet program requirements.
- Lead and mentor teams of ATF engineers in the execution of necessary analytical activity including reacting CFD, thermal analysis, and thermo-acoustic analysis.
- Collaborate with other disciplines including design, structures, operability, durability in the development of balanced engineering solutions.
- Drive communication of technical summaries and recommendations to meet program/discipline objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or in a related field and 5+ years of prior relevant experience in three or more discipline in the following areas: CFD, heat transfer, 1-D flow systems, rig testing, engine testing, chemical kinetics, fluid sprays, two-phase flow OR a Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or in a related field and 3+ years of prior relevant experience in three or more discipline in the following areas: CFD, heat transfer, 1-D flow systems, rig testing, engine testing, chemical kinetics, fluid sprays, two-phase flow, OR a PhD graduate with directly applicable research experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active U.S. government issued security clearance.
- PhD graduate with 1+ years of relevant experience.
- Design and research experience in turbomachinery, chemical kinetics or two-phase fluid mechanics.
- Experience with a range of modern thermal-fluid analytical tools used in the gas turbine industry, including ANSYS Classic/Workbench and Fluent/CFX
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with key examples of projects completed and documented through formal written and oral means. (e.g. publications, reports, detailed briefings).
- Positive attitude with a strong teamwork competency to quickly build positive relationships within our team and our customers.
