Reporting to the Certification Manager, the Structural Certification Engineer will be responsible for the research, planning, and execution of the FAA certification process for commercial aircraft seats and seating components. This position will support our innovative First and Business class seating products teams to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers in the commercial airlines market.
This position does offer relocation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs standard engineering assignments usually representing a significant portion of a larger project. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and make design decisions.
- Represents the Certification and Structures team in design reviews.
- Compiles FAA certification documentation for submission to commercial aircraft OEM's and regulatory agencies.
- Reviews and approves design changes from a certification perspective.
- Supports design optimization tasks (e.g. weight reduction).
- Leads test activities such as Dynamic/16g Crash, Static, and Flammability.
- Administrates certification efforts.
- Performs material selection and material specification correlation.
- Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering project.
- Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
- Provides technical leadership to a small group of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians.
- Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
- Participates in defining of engineering approaches and in planning/scheduling work.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to perform classical stress analysis and/or experience with structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods and modeling applications.
- Familiarity with strengths of standard aviation materials.
- Prior working experience in the aerospace industry, specifically with aircraft interiors.
- Prior experience reviewing and approving drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare and give presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively with team members and cross functional teams.
- Ability to work proficiently in Microsoft Office Suite applications and engineering related software programs.
