Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer to support the AeroThermal Fluid team. This team is responsible for all aerodynamic aspects for Commercial Fan and Low Compressor Modules.  The Senior Aerodynamics Engineer is responsible for design, validation, production and field support for all commercial modules. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and assess aero designs for advanced gas turbine fans and compressors from the concept initiation phase, preliminary engine design phase, through detailed design, development, certification, manufacturing and post-certification.
  • Perform airfoil and flowpath design, data analyses, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and optimization analyses.  Emphasis is on analytical work and testing directed at the performance of compression system modules.
  • Communicate technical progress and status to various program groups, senior management, and customers. 
  • Work with the Aero-Thermal Fluids (ATF) leadership team to define and execute technology plans, establish standard work methodologies and design system enhancements.
  • Demonstrate leadership for the aerodynamics team providing Module Center and Program Systems support will be a critical skill for success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering or in a related field and 5+ years of prior aerospace experience in the following areas: production support, validation, testing, re-design, and CFD OR Master’s Degree Science in Engineering or related field and 3+ years of prior aerospace experience in the following areas: production support, validation, testing, re-design, and CFD.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Travel up to 10%.
  • Work location: Middletown, CT (Preferred location), or East Hartford, CT.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Engineering with relevant aerospace research experience in the following areas: production support, validation, testing, re-design, and CFD.
  • Active U.S. government issues security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Able to manage moderately sized projects or processes.
