What does the role look like?
In this exciting role you will lead safety and reliability engineering within a multi-disciplinary project team within our Nacelles value stream. Given the complexity of the role, we're open to background & experience.
You will be responsible for providing expert engineering support to the Value Stream; working with hydromechanical and electromechanical drive systems, including electronic controllers. This includes working as part of a multifunction project team to develop the system and product designs to achieve the optimum balance of reliability and safety with other design parameters.
Furthermore you will be responsible for ensuring that the engineering design meets the reliability and safety requirements in the most effective and efficient manner.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
- Taking full technical responsibility for interpreting, organising, executing and coordinating milestones and document deliverables and delivering on time in full;
- Actively engage in the activity of providing an input to the project team to optimise both the system and product design with respect to Safety and Reliability including the provision of trade study data;
- Providing analysis and data as required on new product introduction projects;
- Preparing the appropriate sections of proposals for new equipment and support to system studies;
- Ensuring that lessons learned from previous in-service experience are fully considered and implemented;
- Participating in design reviews and assessing the impact of any design changes on reliability and safety;
- Specifying Safety and Reliability requirements for bought out specifications and for system components;
- Specifying special test requirements for components or systems necessary to achieve or demonstrate achievement of the Safety and Reliability requirements;
- Support Risk Analysis activities, the identification of risk and the method of mitigation (analysis, test comparison etc.);
- Providing reliability and safety technical expertise, advice and guidance across a wide variety of projects;
What will you bring to the role?
Essential skills:
- Engineering / mathematics background with an excellent knowledge of Safety and Reliability engineering. Knowledge of Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) are essential.
- Able to understand and analyse systems at unit and detail design level.
- Computer literate with the ability to use word processor and spreadsheet applications.
Desirable skills:
- Able to understand the mathematics associated with Safety and Reliability engineering, including statistics and statistical analysis, probability theory, and mathematical modelling.
- Possess a good understanding of mechanical and electronic engineering.
- Knowledge of Fault Tree and FMEA packages, current aerospace standards and certification requirements.
- Ability to determine system designs from safety requirements and recommend system design changes to adhere to requirements.
- Interpret, organise, execute, and coordinate milestones and document deliverables.
- Capability to perform Maintainability and occasional ILS analyses would be beneficial.
- Logical approach to technical problem resolution and decision making.
