The Power Thermal Management Systems (PTMS) Discipline, which is part of Engine Design & System Integration Controls & Diagnostics Systems & Accessories (EDSI CDSA), is seeking a Power Thermal Management (Principal Systems Engineer) to be a part of our world-class systems engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead engineer for assigned subsystem, with overall responsibility for subsystem design and integration
- Architecting power and thermal management systems to meet government and airframe requirements
- Modeling power and thermal management systems throughout product lifecycle
- Defining interfaces between engine, airframe and PTMS and working with customers
- Defining subsystem and component requirements for module centers and suppliers, as well as requirement verification criteria and plans
- Ensuring subsystems/parts meet system performance, weight, cost, volume, schedule and RMS requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Experience in applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
- Experience with Matlab, Simulink, MS Office
- Effective Communication Skills (verbal/written); able to work effectively on teams
- Experience with Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) or Dynamic Modeling Laboratory (Dymola) or other turbomachinery simulations
- Experience with one or more of the following engine subsystems: bleed air systems, buffer air systems, fuel systems, control systems, horsepower extraction
- Experience with air cycle systems or vapor cycle systems for thermal management
- Experience with decomposition of customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements
- Experience generating requirement verification criteria and plans
- Experience integrating subsystems with engines or aircraft
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
- Desire for continuous learning and innovation
- US Security Clearance is preferred; willing to obtain and maintain
