Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Principal Structures Engineer to support our East Hartford, CT campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and support world class efficient lifing systems & structural analysis tools to enable safe, reliable designs.
  • Analysis, research & development of structural engineering specification involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating & ventilating, equipment & maintenance designs.
  • Analysis of damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include: dynamics and loads, stability & stress fatigue, and thermal analysis.
  • Pre/Post Test Data Processing & Fatigue Analysis Guidance, Vibration, Aeromechanic & Probabilistic Analysis Guidance. Material Characterization Planning, and High Cycle Fatigue Capability Definition & Application Guidance.
  • Provide vibration, fatigue & fracture mechanics expertise to support internal & external customers on structural engineering of new designs, engine development plans, and production / field issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials Degree or in a related Engineering degree and 8+ years of prior structural engineering experience of new product designs (metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials), engine development plans, and/or production, OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and 5+ years of prior years of prior structural engineering experience of new product designs (metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials), engine development plans, and/or production.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Travel up 5%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lead technical small group meetings & may manage moderately sized projects or processes with moderate impact on the achievement of discipline results, and the ability to make moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of work area
  • Coach, review, and delegate work to lower level professionals. Influences others regarding policies, practices & procedures.
  • Actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement using CORE tools and support AS9100 certification efforts. Become a CORE Apprentice.
  • Capable of changing/adapting plans and communicating new plans, risk assessments and decisions to relevant parties.
