Job Summary:

The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) is looking for an experienced Principal Structures Engineer to perform structural analysis on military engine programs.  Responsibilities of the position include performing structural analyses to demonstrate durability and structural integrity of MSEN components, participating on multi-disciplined integrated product teams, and presenting analysis results to both PW leadership and customer representatives.  Hardware to be analyzed includes bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mount brackets, and ducts.  Moreover, the responsibilities include performing of engine test data reduction and providing as needed on-site or remote engine test coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis on Externals or similar hardware using a combination of hand calculations, PW tools, and finite element analysis.  Previous experience using ANSYS classic and/or Workbench required.  Expertise in Siemens NX Advanced Simulation a plus.

  • Lead structural analysis Relentless Root Cause Analyses (RRCA) teams including directing analysis work, assigning, and closing action items, mentoring team members, and presenting results to engineering leadership and externals customers.

  • Lead outsourced vendors in performing analyses consistent with internal guidelines and customer specifications.

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to less experienced engineers with a specific emphasis on proficiency improvement.

  • Improve and generate internal guidelines and training.

  • Perform and support testing. Responsibilities include creating test plans, selection of instrumentation and limits for test, assistance in rig design and mechanism of loading, structural analysis of test hardware, evaluation of test data, and presentation of results to leadership and customers.

  • Travel less than 10%

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, OR an Advanced degree and 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering degree strongly preferred.

  • Aerospace or Turbofan Engine industry experience highly preferred.

  • Proficiency in structural finite element methods, hand-calculations, and use of ANSYS.

  • Continuous Improvement experience, and/or LEAN, CORE, ACE, Six-Sigma training.

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, SAP, and other business software.

  • Strong communication and task coordination skills.
