Job Description:
Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-focused Principal Structures Engineer to join the Structures team as a discipline leader, supporting the production of commercial and military hot section rotating and airfoil components. The Principal Structures Engineer will serve as the structures discipline head within integrated product teams (IPT). This engineer is expected to execute structural assessments (Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, NX Simcenter, Abaqus), Fracture Mechanics, LCF and HCF Life Cycle Prediction) and oversee day-to-day activities for production support, proactive producibility improvement tasks, supporting critical quality issues, supplier transitions, and engineering design changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for execution of quality non-conformance structural assessments of commercial & military hot section components using hand calculations, 2D and 3D finite element modeling, the latest P&W Engineering Standard Work, investigative tools, and engineering judgement.
- Mentor, support and nurture team engineers and outsource engineers, delegate execution of structural analysis work to the team, take ownership of assigned tasks and drives timely execution by overseeing structural analyses to meet task and schedule requirements.
- Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes on your own and as a team contributor.
- Participate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Develop new structural analysis solutions when historical solutions are not available or applicable and support proactive initiatives to improve producibility and reduce the cost of poor quality.
- Communicate with team chiefs and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics.
Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 8+ years of engineering experience, or an advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of engineering experience.
- Knowledge of structural analysis methods (Finite Element Analysis, stress analysis, LCF/HCF fatigue, and fracture mechanics).
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace manufacturing experience and team management experience.
- Experience with finite element analysis software and programing languages. Examples include ANSYS, APDL, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, NX Simcenter, NX Teamcenter and SAP.
- Demonstrated success working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
- Prior participation in process improvement initiatives.
- Clear and concise communicator with emphasis on tailoring to appropriate audience.
