Collins Aerospace is looking for an Principal Software Engineer. This position supports the Trusted Mission Processing and Integrated Solutions (TMP-IS) product area within the Mission Systems strategic business unit of Collins Aerospace. TMP-IS provides secured processing platforms and capabilities to both domestic and international customers. This specific position will provide expert level software development and support to new research and development programs within the mission area.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record designing, developing and augmenting software solutions that meet technical requirements of the product while balancing system level concerns within program cost and schedule constraints. The candidate will learn existing software product lines, assess, and influence system requirements, develop software requirements, develop new and extend existing software designs, implement, integrate, and test software to meet program requirements.
The successful candidate must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate software approach, constraints, and design/implementation rationale to varied audiences including program leadership, multidiscipline engineering teams, and the customer. Candidate must also be able to successfully lead the software team to implement the technical solution, perform thorough system integration, and demonstrate the system/software capabilities as part of formal validation tests and customer support.
This position is eligible for relocation assistance.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
• 8+ years of embedded, real-time software development experience
• Advanced C/C++ experience with understanding of embedded hardware application
• Solid understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and modern interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, and other types of protocols
• Solid understanding of headless embedded software design – considers CPU, memory limitations of embedded systems and how the code impacts such architectures
• Technical leadership of an engineering team to successfully implement, integrate, and deliver the solution
• Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver balanced approach and to resolve technical issues
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Ability to document and effectively communicate software approach, constraints, design and rationale to various audiences
• Ability to adapt to new/evolving requirements definition and application
• Self-starter, capable of directing work of others and mentoring junior engineers
• Active DoD Secret (or higher) Clearance
Security Clearance:
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
• Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
