Collins Aerospace is currently searching for a Systems Specialty Engineer, Reliability & Maintainability to join our team in Richardson, TX. We are seeking individuals with the technical skills and personal leadership attributes to support program development through the application of specialty engineering techniques. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of program life cycle, utilizing Reliability & Maintainability methodologies as they apply in our systems engineering processes. Key responsibilities include the following: familiarity with military, civil, and industry standards, derivation and allocation of system specialty engineering requirements, and development of system specialty engineering analyses.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Implementing and executing Design for Reliability (DfR) process

  • Supporting design and development teams by developing, assessing, and verifying Reliability & Maintainability-related requirements for mission-critical systems

  • Developing Reliability Allocations and Predictions (hardware and software), Maintainability Allocations and Predictions, Failure Modes, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Testability Analysis, Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), Maintainability/Built-In Test (M/BIT) Demonstration

  • Working with industry standards and handbooks such as MIL-HDBK-217F  (Reliability Predictions for Electronic Equipment), 217Plus, MIL-HDBK-470A (Designing and Developing Maintainable Products and Systems), MIL-HDBK-338B (Electronic Reliability Design Handbook), MIL-HDBK-454B (General Guidelines for Electronic Equipment), MIL-HDBK-781A (Reliability Test Methods), MIL-HDBK-2155 (FRACAS), MIL-HDBK-2165 (Testability Handbook), Software reliability per IEEE 1633-2016

  • Supporting Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+), and Integrated Health Management System (IHMS) programs

  • Familiarity with industry known reliability and maintainability tools/software such as Reliasoft, Windchill, or Express to perform analyses

  • Planning and executing Reliability testing, e.g., Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), reliability growth testing (RGT)

  • Pursuit capture phase of a program by developing proposal language and determining appropriate BOE (basis of estimates) for bids and proposals

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact and build trust with team members from many different backgrounds, including engineering management, engineering teams, program management, business development, support groups, and subcontractors

Basic Qualifications:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

  • Understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle, with knowledge of how to apply reliability & maintainability engineering principles and best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of systems architectures and designs

  • Understanding of military aircraft-related missions, functional operation, performance specifications, and verification and validation (V&V) techniques

  • Familiarity with Control Account Management (CAM) within the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) framework

  • Familiarity with agile development and model-based systems engineering (MBSE)

  • Familiarity with DOORS, Cameo, and/or Atlassian (ALM) tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)

  • Familiarity with developing Contractor Documents Requirements List (CDRL) documents per applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs)

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to present to a variety of audiences
