The Communication Products Engineering Department is seeking a Principal Project Engineer. The primary responsibility for this position is to lead the development of production test solutions in support of multiple products and programs, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links. This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

As a Principal Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading various test engineering teams with hardware and software development efforts for Product top level and sublevel test solutions. This includes supporting the bidding, planning and execution of various test solution developments, as well as overseeing the completion of design documentation, such as test procedures, and other artifacts related to the test solution acceptance and deployment. Responsibilities also include serving as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) for the scope, schedule, and budget of various test solution developments.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team of Engineers to develop proven test solutions that meet the production test requirements.
  • Lead test solution design and development lifecycle activities including bidding, planning, requirements capture, design, build, test, and integration.
  • Perform the Cost Account Manager (CAM) responsibilities for various projects, including managing and statusing the cost, schedule, and technical performance, as well as performing risk management.
  • Prepare and present project and/or technical information to technical staff, program leadership, management and customers.
  • Ensures processes are adhered to by the engineering execution team. Includes overseeing the verification of functionality of new test equipment, procedures, and documentation prior to deploying in a production environment..

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of work experience
  • Control Account Manager and Project management experience, including experience performing cost, schedule, and risk management for development projects.
  • Experience with bidding and estimating budgets and schedules for design and development activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of aerospace or manufacturing processes, test requirements, procedure development, and product quality requirements.
  • Experience in successfully taking test solutions and programs from development to production deployment.
  • Experience with evaluating appropriate level of testing based on design and manufacturing complexity and influence development of optimal test process flows.
  • Understanding of Collins Aerospace processes/tools (PDM/Enovia, SCL, IMPACT, SAP, ALM, ISAT, Microsoft Project). Experience with Agile Development methods, including planning, tracking, and managing development projects in JIRA is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-rack test stations and COTS test equipment: oscilloscopes, DMM's, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, switch matrices, and optical measurement systems.
  • Strong peer leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
