The Principal Project Engineer is an onsite position and will be located in Carlsbad, CA.  May be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead principal and senior mechanical, optical, and electrical engineers in the design, analysis, and testing of complex opto-mechanical systems and wearable digital displays.

  • Will be the customers’ and program managements technical point of contact for one or more projects of medium to high complexity. 

  • Work with the program manager to develop the program execution plan, and will ensure projects remain within budget, on schedule, and meets all customer and derived requirements. 

  • Lead proposal efforts in both the optics and digital display domains, coordinating inputs from various project engineers, generating project bids and technical volumes in support of the overall proposal effort.

  • Track, report, and analyze earned value metrics as required to understand program performance and will determine appropriate actions to correct real problems before impacting overall program performance.

  • Report performance to program management, leadership, and the customer as warranted.

  • Report and analyze earned value metrics to track program performance.

  • Support development of the program execution plan

  • Ensure projects remain within budget, on schedule, and meet all customer and derived requirements.

  • Travel up to 15%. 

Education and experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Skills you must have:

  • Demonstrated application of integrated project management, technical consistent process, earned value, and risk managements for one or more programs in either an optical or digital display domain.

  • Knowledge of core concepts of opto-mechanical systems and/or digital display systems

  • Conceptual, planning, and problem-solving skills across multiple projects

  • Computer skills and the utilization of MS Project, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP and Cobra preferred but not mandatory.

The salary range for this role is 103,000 USD - 215,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
