Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer for our Vergennes, VT location. This position is for a Principal Mechanical Engineer in a highly energetic production support environment with specific applications and customer requirements. The applications are a mix of aerospace products, ranging from electronic braking systems and actuation/controller systems. You will evaluate issues and opportunities during production and troubleshooting and determine solutions. This position requires excellent organization, leadership, communication, and engineering design skills. You will have experience with Electrical Actuation Systems and are one who thrives on working in a team environment helping to problem solve. You should be self-motivated and willing to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a dynamic team. You will be part of a team composed of professionals from several disciplines and must have the ability to function well, both alone and with others, and have strong interpersonal skills. This position may require occasional travel (up to 10%.).

In this position you will analyze and modify product designs in collaboration with Design Engineering to assure manufacturability. Conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables; and services, troubleshoot and solve production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation.

This is an ONSITE position in Vergennes, VT. This position may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensures processes are adhered to by the engineering execution team and liaises with program management and other IPT leads to assure technical goals are achieved.
  • Responsible for capturing lessons learned.
  • Take ownership of technical project execution through Design & Development activities into Production
  • Present project status to multiple levels of Leadership
  • Work as part of a cohesive team with test engineering, product engineering, system engineering, program management and Operations
  • Responsible for driving cross-discipline trade offs & design decisions working with the Discipline Chief and SMEs
  • Develop and execute to a plan and embrace discovery and change
  • Provide mentoring to newer team members
  • Interact with customer focals as necessary to maintain satisfaction of products
  • Work with internal customers to define production issues
  • Be a technical lead to understand customer and contractual requirements
  • Review hardware against drawing specifications and determine if components meet requirements
  • Performs analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, and maintenance. Reviews field support requirements and recommends tools and test equipment.
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a University Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
  • Outstanding communication skills, especially cross-discipline

  • Exhibit a positive attitude and great mentoring/delegating skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in systems design including requirements capture/analysis, system design, systems integration/test, including hardware integration.
  • Experience interfacing directly with both internal and external customers including presentations and issue resolution
  • Experience designing or evaluating Electrical Actuation Systems
