Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to provide technical leadership for the Geared Turbofan High Pressure Compressor Module team. A strong background and expertise in commercial and military Fan, Low, and High Pressure Compressors design is desired.  The selected candidate will be required to take leadership roles in complex and high priority tasks, as well as directly support senior level engineers and program managers. This position requires proven technical capabilities, leadership skills, excellent communication skills, self- sufficiency, and willingness to work with and learn from team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals, all with minimal supervisor oversight.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to design associates to advance their proficiency as well as communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics.
  • Coordination of product definition data and making layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.  Final approval of product definition.
  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams, discipline chiefs and subject matter experts to manage the discipline review process and ensure readiness for product reviews to ensure first time design quality.
  • Interface with other departments such as Engine Design & Systems Integration, Customer Technical Support, Aftermarket Services Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations.
  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the design process.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or in a related field and 8+ years of Mechanical Design turbomachinery experience OR
  • Master of Science Degree in a related field and 5+ years of Mechanical Design turbomachinery experience.
  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
  • Turbomachinery experience.
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. This means that responsibilities of the job need to be performed onsite on a regular basis.

This position will be based out of our Middletown, Connecticut office and our team location is currently hybrid: 60% on site, 40% remote.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
