Collins Aerospace is looking to fill a Principal Engineer, Project Engineering position within the F135 ECU program. As the Principal Engineer, you will support future capabilities of the F135 engine. Additionally, you will be responsible for driving the efforts of the Integrated Product Development Team in developing and delivering controls and accessories for the F135 ECU engine program for engine development testing.

One of the key aspects of this role is maintaining direct communication with customers. This includes daily tag-ups and participation in weekly and quarterly meetings. Effective communication with customers is crucial to ensure the smooth progress of the project and to address any concerns or queries they may have.

As the Principal Engineer, you will play a critical role in the success of the F135 engine program. Your expertise and dedication will contribute to pushing the boundaries of engine development and supporting the advancement of future capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Actively work to strengthen horizontal and vertical alignment in the organization and help develop and mentor the IPTs.

  • Coordinate with the current F135 program to incorporate learnings in the ECU suite of components.

  • Coordinating and leading team meetings, capturing and driving action item closures, and providing updates to management and leadership.

  • Driving issue resolution closures due to requirements, design, and schedule challenges.

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and tracking/reporting of all technical aspects of the ECU controls activity. This includes leading efforts of a cross functional engineering team and acting as the key interface between Collins engineering and Pratt & Whitney controls engineering.

  • Providing critical evaluation of technical and programmatic tasks, manage scope and tasks across the engineering team, and effectively operate within a matrix environment to manage and identify resource needs.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • Experience in engine controls components or systems.

  • Experience in working and/or leading team projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Programs and/or project management skills preferred.

  • Experience presenting to internal and external customers.

  • Strong grasp of all Microsoft Office products and MS Project tools are preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to interact with senior levels of internal and customer management.

  • Experience working with an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) or equivalent project financial management methods.

  • Experience coordinating trade studies and develop basis of estimates (BOE’s) for engineering planning and proposal activities.
