Job Summary:

The Hot Section Engineering Mechanical Design team is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer, preferably with turbo machinery experience. If you have relevant mechanical design background and experience in these areas and possess the skills and motivation to bring new ideas into practice, we would like to like to hear from you. The mechanical designer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including project, structures, durability, aero-thermal, and product definition. The mechanical designer will also need to interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other departments such as Customer Technical Support, Global Services Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations to complete these tasks. This position is in a commercial engine program supporting both 24K/30K Mid Turbine Frame (MTF) modules. The tasks will vary, but may include clean sheet design, delivering development hardware to test engines, facilitating the delivery of hardware to production engines, processing engineering changes to improve the production configuration, and support of fielded engines. This position may require up to 10% travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in field learning investigations. Including Root Case and Corrective Action (RRCA), Fault Tree creation, implementing corrective actions. Get O/S support as needed to support objectives.

  • Implement read across learning from field learning across NGPF platform. Drive updates to Engine Knowledge Works (EKS), Design Manual, and Design Standards.

  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with some supervisor oversight.

  • Review and approval of product definition data (prints and models).

  • Generate development hardware design solutions that meet the objectives of the test engines and facilitate the delivery of the development hardware to the test engines on schedule.

  • Work with Operations to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to facilitate the timely delivery of production hardware.

  • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life.

  • Work with our Customer Technical Support (CTS) team to respond to customer questions, review deteriorated hardware, and update engine maintenance manual limits.

  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the design process.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering.

  • 8+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years with an advanced degree.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree.

  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.

  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.

  • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal.

  • Consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.

  • Experience with MS Office products.
