Job Summary:
Raytheon Space & Airborne Mechanical Systems is currently seeking a Principal Electro-Mechanical Engineer for the Advanced Microelectronics Packaging and Design organization in El Segundo, CA to develop leading-edge miniaturized sensors and systems to enable future generation technologies across Raytheon.
This position is a hybrid role, and the selected applicant will work with the hiring manager to set schedule.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- You will work with cross-functional hardware engineering teams to develop architecture solutions for airborne radar antenna arrays meeting the highest customer expectations.
- Array electronics may include high density microelectronic packaging designs and electronic components / devices such as ASICs and FPGAs, design of electronic packaging chassis and structures, interconnects, thermal control design of high-density electronic systems and electronic enclosures. Example design constraints include size, weight, power, and design to cost.
- You will be expected to follow established procedures in creation of technical data package work products, while working closely with program management and functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met.
- The Principal Electro-Mechanical Engineer will be a highly motivated “self-starter” who will apply strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills to implement innovative solutions to challenging design criteria.
- You will be involved in product development from beginning to end, including documentation, fabrication, assembly, and test/delivery of military products.
- Role requires strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to maintain positive relationships & satisfaction with Programs leadership (Engineering and Program Management). Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials and prior experience working with contract manufacturers is highly desired.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical and electrical design experience OR 5 years with an advance degree.
- Experience with circuit layout design using 2D CAD tools
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advance Engineering Degree (Master’s or Ph.D.)
- RF circuit design and HFSS simulation experience
- Circuit layout design experience using 2D CAD tools (Cadence Virtuoso and/or Allegro/APD+)
- Experience with semiconductor processing
- Design experience with 3D and 2.5D packaging
- Experience qualifying and implementing cutting edge materials
- Strong background in development, documentation, fabrication, assembly, and test/delivery of military electronic products
- Experience with airborne environmental requirements and design constraints
- Proficiency with CREO/Pro-Engineer CAD modeling and analysis tools
- Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis for drawings
- Innovative attitude to apply towards research and development of new technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, including as a leader of small teams
- Possess an active security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 103,000 USD - 215,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
