Job Description:
This is a Design Engineering position within Engineering Support to Operations Organization is located in Middletown, Connecticut and closely supports the manufacturing of world class compression systems at Pratt & Whitney facilities located in Middletown, CT.
Pratt & Whitney Cold Section Engineering Support to Operations (CSE ESTO) is looking for a self- motivated and detail-focused design engineer to serve the IPTL and focal point of contact for specific engine hardware on critical airplane engine programs.
This engineer is expected to execute and oversee day to day activities for production support, proactive producibility improvement tasks, quality issues, supplier transitions, and Class 2 Engineering Changes for rotating hardware.
They will be responsible for performing detail design and analyses for compression system hardware and will work collaboratively to arrive at solutions with integrated product teams. The candidates will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of commercial cold section rotating and static hardware.
Possible opportunities include design of commercial/military fan blades, vanes, cases, modules owned by P&W.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage corrective action activities that drive quality notification (QN) and cost reduction and support rapid closure of stop delivery order (SDO)/fielded product notification (FPN) investigations. Eliminate repeat analysis through proactively addressing repeat QNs.
- Lead Cost of Poor-Quality initiatives and producibility improvement tasks, to meet shop and supplier MRP requirements.
- Identify areas of waste within production support process. Continue to challenge current process and procedures to identify areas for improvement. Capture ESTO producibility lessons learned. Drive continuous improvement into product development cycle.
- Work with multidiscipline teams, including operations, quality, procurement, and engineering discipline SMEs to drive root cause investigations, develop associated corrective actions, and implement product and process improvements.
- Opportunity to grow communication and leadership skills through: Driving QN workflow with outsource teams, managing out-sourced technical quality, and growing outsource technical proficiency.
- Coordinate evaluation and response to supplier requests for information (eSRI). Develop Class II engineering change packages to improve quality, cost and producibility metrics.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8+ years of engineering experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering and 5+ years of engineering experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Experience working in the Aerospace Industry in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous Design or Manufacturing experience.
- Working proficiency with MS Office, Teamcenter, SAP, Unigraphics.
- Craft clear communication and build positive relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
