Job Overview
In this position, you will discover and optimize new commercial thermodynamic cycles to enable sustainable and zero-carbon flight and discover advanced military propulsion concepts that enable new war fighting paradigms. This position provides the flexibility to work across commercial and military organizations and make novel discoveries to meet the challenges of the 21st century. This is a technical position with the following functions:
Key Responsibilities:
- Originate and evaluate propulsion concepts where thermodynamic cycles work in concert with various hybrid electric propulsion and aircraft elements to meet key requirements.
- Coordinate with various P&W engineering disciplines, Collins, and RTRC to assess viability of cycle components.
- Provide leadership to challenge, clarify, and define assumptions.
- Build and execute Multi-disciplinary Design Optimization workflows.
- Summarize design and analysis results for senior leadership and external customer briefings.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master's degree in a related field and minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience, or
- PhD with relevant experience in a related field
- US Citizen due to government contracts
- Familiarity with cycle analysis of various thermodynamic cycles
- This position requires strong NPSS parametric modeling skills for conceptual design and understanding of the NPSS solver
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ability to work with MATLAB in support of various engine concepts.
- Sound understanding of gas properties and products of combustion for alternate fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, steam, and carbon dioxide.
- Familiarity with NASA CEA for modeling of combustion products and NIST RefProp for modeling of gas properties.
- Ability to create and execute Multi-disciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) workflows using iSIGHT/3DExperience.
- Experience in transient cycle models and controls.
- Experience with Simulia Dymola.
