Job Summary:

In the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps. The Flight Sciences department, within GNC, is looking for a motivated and dependable Senior Aerodynamics Design Engineer to perform in the role of Payload IPT Lead, at our Tucson, AZ location.

This is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • You will own a small team as the technical lead.
  • You will support system performance analysis including model development, system optimization, and Monte Carlo assessments with expected system disturbances.
  • You will influence the architecture of the system, establishing processes, and align Raytheon program leadership, office the of chief engineer, and multiple IPTs 
  • You will interact and coordinate with customer community stakeholders, including acquisition and technical groups, to influence and guide the development of program mission requirements.
  • Selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain special access program clearance

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior Aerodynamics engineering experience with flight vehicles.
  • Experience with at least two of the following:  aerodynamic analysis, trade studies, and performance assessment; aerodynamic model development from empirical, CFD, and/or wind tunnel data sources; development of kinematic simulations to assess system behavior
  • Experience coding in Matlab, C++ and/or Python
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with airframe design and environments
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Experience with mentoring and leading small teams
  • Master’s or PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Math, or Physics
