Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization. Space and Launch Division is seeking a Mission Operation Controller Lead (Level 3 / 4) to join our team in Herndon, VA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Mid- Level Mission Operation Controller Lead position will be part of a high-performing team in a very dynamic environment. As a member of our team, you will report directly to the Operations Manager and have the opportunity to lead the Mission Controller team consisting of planning and scheduling activities performed for the operation of a complex real-time system.  As the lead, your role will focus on developing / updating training curriculum, procedures, guidance, and documentation to ensure continuous improvement of the system and mission controllers to meet program requirements.  The position will require briefing several customers and key stakeholders while attending various meetings and events.  Candidates should have technical experience in the use of system assets, collaborating with several engineering groups, and resources for a 24x7 operational system.  This position will require the candidate to maintain positional certification to directly train and evaluate others, and occasionally provide 24x7 shift coverage support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop / update training curriculum, procedures, guidance, and documentation as required.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues following defined procedures and coordinate across multiple teams to update guidance.

  • Brief and attend key stakeholder and customer meetings.

  • Evaluation and training of others.

  • Maintain positional certification and crew schedules.

  • Occasionally provide surge support coverage in a 24x7 Operations team environment to include working shifts, weekends, and holidays.

  • Escalate issues as required.

  • Recognize and document system discrepancies.

  • Identify and propose opportunities for system improvement.

  • Collaborate with other teams and individuals.

  • Willingness to complete and maintain positional and corporate training requirements.

  • Certification required – Combination of self-led reading, observation, and on the job training provided, resulting in a passing evaluation from the designated trainer, evaluator & operations manager.

  • Adjust to changing priorities, multiple demands and crises.

  • Participate in the development of engineering processes, methods and tools.

  • Understand and support customer needs and priorities.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • (BA/BS) in technical field such as engineering, mathematics, or aerospace or in a commercially-related field, such as business or economics

  • Strong interpersonal communicator to convey technical information to others.

  • Experience working in UNIX, LINUX, and/or Windows environments.

  • Ability to complete / maintain positional certification. 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience managing customer relationships.

  • Experience in space and satellite systems.

  • Experience working with Linux commands

  • Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Self-starter with little supervision and prioritizing tasks to meet program requirements.

  • Ability to adjust to ever changing priorities

  • Experience creating and providing training to team members

  • 24x7 operations and support process experience.

  • Ability to occasionally work shifts in a 24x7 operations team environment to include the potential to work weekends and holidays. 

  • Experience training, coaching, or developing others.

Typical Education/Experience:

(Experienced, Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through education from an accredited course of study (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

(Lead, Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through education from an accredited course of study (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+4 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450

Summary pay range (Lead, Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650
