Job Summary:

Product Safety Certification & Validation-Engineering Quality (PSCV-EQ) is seeking a motivated candidate to fill the role of Naval Air Station Patuxent River (PAX) Flight Test Engineer (FTE).  This role is for an onsite position based in Patuxent River, MD.  The Onsite FTE will report to the PAX Flight Test Engineering Manager (FTEM) and will be responsible for supporting active flight-testing activities supporting the DoD customer. The Onsite FTE will serve as a program flight test engineering technical focal at the customer site and will work to execute technical requirements in delivering validation and verification results to United States Navy and United States Marine Corps, and partner customers. The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal and team skills, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute technical planning and integration activities through liaising with the F135 In-House Flight Test Engineering team and Integrated Product Team (IPT)
  • Work to resolve any technical issues with root cause and corrective action activities leveraging Customer Oriented Results and Excellence (CORE) framework.
  • Interface and liaise with customer and partner teams as required to support flight testing requirements.
  • Work with onsite Flight Test Engineering manager to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Coordinate with operations team to support engine inspection and maintenance activities as required.
  • Manage activities on flight test engines to ensure airworthiness and product safety.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in engine assembly, test, and validation; and leading process improvement projects or 3+ years of experience with an Advance Degree
  • Advanced knowledge in assembly and testing (sea-level and altitude) of development gas turbine engines
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience supporting onsite customer flight testing at airframer.
  • Proficient in the use of continuing improvement tools (Agile/CORE) to drive process improvements leading to increased customer satisfaction.
  • Proficient in MS Office collaboration tools
  • Strong communication skills, self-starter, self-driven
