Summary

East Hartford Repair Operations (EHRO) is a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility and performs engine part repairs, modifications, and overhauls on a vast majority of critical life limited parts for both Prat & Whitney commercial and military engine parts.

The EHRO Materials Control Laboratory is looking for a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician (P1) . The person in this role will support preparation and evaluation of composite microscopic samples, and metallography analysis of both coating samples. This includes the preparation of test samples and the micro analysis of each coating based on Pratt & Whitney specifications. In addition, you will analyze weld samples produced by the welders at the site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare specimens for metallurgy by abrasive cutting, mounting, polishing and chemical etching, including microscopic evaluation of Thermal Spray coatings on prepared test specimens.

  • Perform Micro Hardness testing on prepared test specimens, which will also include Perform Bond Strength of Thermal Spray coatings and examine Welds for qualifying welding processes and personnel.

  • Compose reports, graph, and analyze data using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, while maintaining accurate and legible records of metallurgy testing, set-up, and results.

  • Perform daily routine maintenance checks of equipment, maintain operational status of the lab, its equipment and supplies and perform work in a safe manner and adhere to safety programs, processes and procedures set forth for the specific process and for company safety programs in general.

  • Achieve established work area cleanliness standards and maintain a high degree of organization in work area(s); follow and support 6S program efforts, achieve and strive for highest quality standards in work and interact with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to deliver desired results in a timely manner.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field

  • Internship or co-op experience within the aerospace industry.

  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access and handle sensitive data required to support our government and military programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Materials, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering fields preferred.

  • Engineering experience within R&D, Academia or Metallurgical Lab, supporting laboratory related activities and studies.

  • Operational experience in metallurgical evaluation lab and use of metallurgical lab equipment.

  • General experience with Metallographic Techniques for Thermal Spray Coatings.

  • Knowledge of Welding Metallurgy and P&W coating specifications.

  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 145 Quality requirements.

  • Experience interpreting technical data, engine manuals and blueprints.

  • Experience working with Solumina MES, SAP ERP, and MS Office Suite.

  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
