When products enter the field there are instances where the design does not function as expected or might not meet the demands of the customer. The role of Mechanical Engineer is to assess an issue and determine the appropriate solution with relation to reliability, maintainability, and cost.
This role will require the successful candidate to have a foundation in root cause analysis skills, mechanical design, manufacturing practices, and the ability to work autonomously on larger and moderately sized projects.
This position does offer relocation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical solutions with a focus on product reliability, maintainability, manufacturability, and cost
- Responsible for closing project tasks within the required timeframe.
- Presents solutions in review meetings and participates in review meetings to provide constructive feedback on design proposals.
- Able to communicate with parties within and outside of their own discipline. May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.)
- Perform root cause analyses and develops corrective actions for in-service issues.
- Conducts/ coordinates reliability testing, abuse load testing and as circumstances dictate, may participate in, or coordinate certification testing.
- Ability to communicate with parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
- Support the implementation of processes or standards to improve new products and continuous improvement activities.
- Up to 10% travel, based in business needs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position,
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis and field investigations
- Strong organization skills
- Experience using Teamcenter PLM and NX CAD
- Knowledge of GD&T and drafting practices
- Experience using Jira
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and mechanical design principles
- Knowledge of aerospace materials
- Knowledge of aircraft seating and certification requirements
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
