Job Description:

The Hot Section Engineering Mechanical Design team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, preferably with turbo machinery experience. If you have relevant mechanical design background and experience in these areas and possess the skills and motivation to bring new ideas into practice, we would like to like to hear from you. The mechanical designer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including project, structures, durability, aero-thermal, and product definition. The mechanical designer will also need to interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other Pratt & Whitney departments.

The candidate will be required to work on site to support advanced military programs. Depending on the phase of the program, the tasks will vary, but may include clean sheet design, delivering development hardware to test engines, facilitating the delivery of hardware to production engines, and processing engineering changes to improve the production configuration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with some supervisor oversight.

  • Review of product definition data (prints and models).

  • Generate development hardware design solutions that meet the objectives of the test engines and facilitate the delivery of the development hardware to the test engines on schedule.

  • Work with Operations to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to facilitate the timely delivery of production hardware.

  • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life.

  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the design process.

  • This position may require up to 10% travel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • 2+ years of relevant Mechanical Design engineering experience OR Master's degree and no experience

  • An active and in-scope Secret US security clearance

  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering

  • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.

  • Turbomachinery experience.

  • Familiarity with Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.

  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, or manufacturing methods.

  • Experience with MS Office products.
