We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Rockford, Illinois!

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with a dynamic, multi-disciplined technical team to contribute to the design, development, production, test equipment, and field support, of aircraft engine mounted generators, auxiliary generators, and aircraft mounted motors.

The Mechanical Design Engineer must have a track record of innovative mechanical design capability, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and experience supporting assembly and testing.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in fostering collaboration between the design engineering team, manufacturing engineering, Operations, and suppliers to meet on time delivery, first time test yield, cost targets, and enhancing reliability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Concept selection, mechanical analysis and design, and development/qualification testing of new products.

  • Engineering documentation and design tool improvement such as hardware specification development, test plans, analytical reports, test reports, reliability assessments, and Excel based tools for incorporation into company standard work.

  • Candidate may be requested to support new business proposals, formal design reviews, and customer presentations.

  • Adherence and development of engineering standard work

  • Interfacing with management, suppliers, customers, and members of the technical design team

  • Satisfying external and internal customer needs subject to strong design and business constraints

  • Providing timely and effective communication to management and customers

  • Supporting engineering investigations to establish root cause and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and dynamic simulations

  • Experience in design, test, and fabrication of hydromechanical machines and systems

  • Experience with technologies and specifically generators, motors, and electrical equipment

  • Background with engineering drawings and 3D design software is preferred.

  • CORE and/or Design for Six Sigma, particularly DOE

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and execute to a program plan.
