We are hiring for a Mechanical Design Engineer in our Main Cabin Seating team. This person will be responsible for designing major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs new products and processes to meet customer requirements as well as facilitating the needs of manufacturing operations.
  • Improves and maintains existing products to ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met.
  • Designs layouts of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and performs cost studies consisting of new details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved.
  • Design ownership of product life-cycle including initial concept through production and product support.
  • Prepare, modify and release drawings created in CAD (Siemens NX) to verify fit, form and function of mechanical designs.
  • Verify structural acceptability of designs by testing prototypes for reliability and FAA certification through dynamic testing.
  • Developing data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
  • Performs ongoing weight analyses to ensure design meets contractual weight requirements while maintaining structural integrity.
  • Utilize engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA and DFMA to validate design content.
  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.
  • Designs and analyzes metallic and non-metallic structures.
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, and design efficiency.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the design of mechanical systems for commercial aircraft seating products
  • Experience in design using Siemens NX or other 3D CAD software
  • Experience working with Teamcenter or other Product Data Manager (PDM) Tools
  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Familiarity with FAA requirements a plus.
