Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).  An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. 

This is a Co-Op position for Summer of 2024 until December. You must be able to work 40 hours a week.

Requirements:

In this position, you will report to the Materials and Process Technology (M&PT) Manager. As the M&PT Intern, you will be assigned short- and long-term work assignments, under supervision of a Global REACh focal for chemical regulation compliance support.  You may have occasional on-site opportunities to support in areas of metallurgical evaluation, destructive testing, chemical processing and research & development.

* EU REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) is the leading chemical regulation used widely across industries.

The REACh team will provide:

  • An understanding of how our aerospace design and manufacturing ties into global chemical regulations

  • Technical introductions to Landing Systems engineering and manufacturing concepts

  • Relevant training for REACh activities

  • Collaborative feedback and support via Teams and OneNote

The tasks can include:

  • Specification analysis to fully understand how our engineering drives hazardous substance usage

  • Tracking down Safety Data Sheets for products used in the manufacture of

  • Landing Systems parts and assemblies and extracting meaningful data for analysis

  • Evaluating usage of products targeted for reduction or elimination and researching alternate products for 16 world-wide sites

  • Review of engineering specifications and other literature searches

  • Data compilation and hazard analysis in Excel

  • Assistance in preparing chemical usage surveys for deployment to manufacturing sites worldwide, compiling and assessing results

  • If R&D teams have appropriate projects in work, some hands-on testing related to product substitutions may be available

  • Writing of technical reports, presentations, and standard work procedures

  • Review and coordinate customer requests, such as REACh Article 33 requests

  • Data transfer

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Year 2 of a University Bachelor’s program in Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

  • Other programs with a Sustainability or similar focus may be considered

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
