Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Design, assembly, test, and optimisation of a f-2f interferometer setup, including femtosecond pulse compression, amplification, and beat detection.

  • Optimisation of the optical interfaces with respect to signal-to-noise as well as electrical and thermo-mechanical stability to reach the desired performance in combination with a dedicated digital control-loop system developed in parallel.

  • Design, assembly, test, and optimisation of interface electronics on PCB prototypes for analogue and digital electronics between experimental setup and FPGA DAC and ADC.

  • Investigation and characterization of optical beat note signals and the closed loop optical performance.

  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary and transnational team to develop novel techniques and methodologies.

  • Perform data analysis, numerical simulations, and statistical modeling to interpret experimental results.

  • Documenting your work and results as a recipe for future work.

 Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Master's degree program (or equivalent) in the field of physics, optics, photonics or related fields.

  • Practical experience in handling and developing optical setups including for instance single mode fibers and couplers, optical gratings, laser diodes, nonlinear frequency doubling or mixing, optical beat-note detection or interferometric setups.

  • Practical programming skills with MATLAB or Python is an essential asset.

  • Geometrical optics and/or nonlinear optics background to perform analytical evaluations and optimisation is favorable.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and propose innovative solutions.

  • Proficiency in experimental techniques, data acquisition, and analysis tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present research findings and problems effectively.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
