Master Technician - Space Systems Houston Engineering Lab (Onsite)

Collins Aerospace is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products.  The Intelligence, Surveillance & Space Systems business unit provides products and services to global government and commercial customers that enable mission success in the harshest environments of space, in the air, at sea, and on the ground.  We design and manufacture space suit life support systems and waste management systems.  The master technician will be responsible for running day-to-day operations in the Houston engineering labs, working with engineers for prototype and development hardware assembly, and setting up and running development tests.  The technician will also further develop the engineering lab space, processes, safety, and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform upkeep and maintenance of engineering lab spaces and equipment
  • Fabricate prototypes and test equipment using powered tools (rotary, reciprocating, bench mount…) and hand tools
  • Ensure safety and lab procedures are followed
  • Provide feedback on engineering designs and test plans
  • Test simple and complex electrical, mechanical, and pressurized systems, meeting engineering requirements, specifications, and test objectives

Basic Qualifications:

  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. OR in the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required OR A Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience OR an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. Certification may be required for technical support roles.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
  • Commitment to safety of self, others, hardware, and equipment, and able to identify and correct safety concerns
  • Ability to take early testing and hardware concepts, provide recommendations to engineering, and work to plan
  • Plans fabrication and test operations based on conceptual or development-stage design input from engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with assembly of space hardware
  • Experience with test assembly and test stand fabrication
  • Experience with pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and vacuum systems
  • Testing operations including: electrical, pressure systems, data acquisition
  • Manufacturing operations including: hard tubing & plumbing, basic machining operations, welding, soldering/de-soldering, wire harnessing, 3D printing
  • Assembly operations including: plumbing, electrical, structural, mechanical
