Job: Manufacturing Operator (Heat Treat)

Shift: AWW2 Shift 3X12 (FSS) (6:00pm-6:30am)

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of supervision or working leader you will work from verbal, written or computer-generated instructions to perform heat treating operations. Plan and perform a variety of standard processes to heat treat jet engine parts and assemblies, tools, and fixtures comprised of a variety of metals and alloys utilizing manual and computer-controlled furnaces.

Perform various heat treat processes such as stress relieving, hardening, annealing, and brazing per written instructions and procedures for the metals and alloys involved.

Set up and operate electric, vacuum and gas furnaces.  Load parts onto fixtures and into furnace

Use computer controls to set heat temperature cycles, ramp times and atmospheres to required settings and purge where necessary.

Use specified holding devices such as fixtures and clamps to limit part distortion.

Set thermocouples around parts/assemblies to maintain accurate temperature readings during heat treat cycles.

Monitor temperature requirements and cooling rates to maintain proper material hardness.

Check parts for hardness upon completion of heat treat process per written instructions.

Use proper handling devices to unload parts and notify supervision of heat cycles not maintained per written instructions.

•              Set up and operate multiple furnaces when required.  Manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.

•              May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and to develop individuals’ skills

Basic Qualifications:

0-1 years of related experience, or a completed degree/certificate from a post-secondary or vocational school in a related field with 0-1+years related experience.

High School or GED

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with metal finishing methods, spray coating/paint application, machining, grinding, and/or welding.

Experience with computerized machine operation.

Experience with precision measuring instruments such as feeler gauges, verniers, calipers and micrometers.

Knowledge of arithmetic involving decimals and fractions

Understand and follow oral and written instructions concerning work methods and procedures.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Basic computer skills

Pratt & Whitney North Berwick is a FAA regulated facility and as such under the U.S. Departments of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with FAA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing as a pre-employment contingency and also subject to ongoing random testing as an employee per FAA’s regulation 14 CFR part 120, as well as 49 CFR part 40.
