This role will be performed onsite at our Collins location in Cedar Rapids, IA.

  • May be eligible for relocation

Responsible for engineering support during the assembly, test, and acceptance processes in the manufacture of Rockwell Collins products. This includes responsibility for specific process or environmental areas. Incumbent may be assigned to a specific product line or Integrated Product Team (IPT). Uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise and interpretation of drawings and specifications of products to assist in the assembly, inspection, test, and troubleshoot of moderately complex products (circuit card through top level)

  • Analyze and resolve design tolerance problems.

  • Provides information to evaluate, select and order capital test equipment and complete cost/payback analysis.

  • Evaluate Customer Returned Good (CRG) activity to repair and return units in the most efficient manner. Evaluate failure data for trends.

  • Supports capacity planning and utilization analysis for accurate staffing and test equipment needs.

  • Eliminate/reduce test defects and improve test yields for routine issues of various levels of scope.

  • Perform root cause analysis and take corrective action to resolve test failures.

  • Develop, implement and maintain test methods and processes in the manufacture and test of sub-assembly, module, and top level product for established stable product lines.

  • Determines proper test flows and sequencing for the efficient flow of products through Manufacturing test.

  • Assures that proper technical assistance and training is provided to floor test technicians.

  • Maintains all test documentation in current configuration. Analyzes manufacturing test processes for cost reduction opportunities.

  • Understands how Engineering support costs affect Manufacturing.

  • Understands how test equipment performance and reliability affects Manufacturing.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of test process and experience with commercial test equipment for RF/Microwave hardware, Digital hardware, and Analog hardware.

  • Experience with programming languages C#, Test Stand, Visual Basic, or LabView.

  • Background or knowledge in RF communications
