WHAT TO EXPECT:

If you have experience in design using CATIA V5 and want to use the skills to help a new manufacturing support function set up, then this role is for you.

 

The future of the toolroom workshops at Castle Bromwich provides support to the whole business to ensure tracks continue to run and are provided with new, replacement or alternative jigs, fixtures, tooling and light fabrications.

 

As a Manufacturing Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering design performance metrics, presenting on them and delivering improvements to align the toolroom KPI’s. The role will offer the opportunity to work and interact with different team such as: Apprentices, JLR internal customers, internals design team etc.

     

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Create designs to support customer requirements
  • Supply CAD models to the manufacturing team to support production needs and manage CAD database for all designs
  • Maintain issues levels and control of data release
  • Work with customers to understand their needs and ensure designs are fit for manufacture
  • Supporting procurement with external suppliers
  • Deliver continuous improvement activities to improve the workshop product delivery process
  • Attend design reviews to support customer quotation & delivery

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • You’ll bring your knowledge and experience of working in a toolroom/workshop environment, including:
  • Experience of design for manufacturing using Catia V5 and reverse engineering from scan data and customer samples
  • Design experience in jigs and fixtures and tooling principles
  • Understanding of design for manufacture
  • Ability to produce CAD engineering drawings to the required standards
  • CNC & Conventional Machining and/or Fabrication 
  • GD&T applications for manufacturing specifications of production drawings and interpretation of customer requirements
