Interim Head of Finance - (1 Year Term)

Marshall Canada requires an Interim Head of Finance for a one-year term in Ottawa, ON to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for oversight and leadership of all in-country finance operations, as well as leadership of supporting business functions as assigned.

Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Prepare and critically analyze annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts for the in-country businesses.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts in accordance with the company timescales along with written commentary of the Business Lines’ results.
  • Provide in-country support to the Business Lines as directed including cost modeling, bid preparation, and bid analysis as part of the company Life Cycle Management (LCM) process, including investment assessments and development of strategic options.
  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in the ERP software.
  • Develop and maintain accurate KPIs, metrics, and financial measures to accurately track and forecast business results.
  • Review and continuously seek to optimize accounting interfaces to Marshall UK.
  • Prepare a monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet control accounts. Provide oversight and direction of accounts payable invoices, ad hoc payments, and staff expenses.
  • Coordinate with Business Lines to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting for in-country programs, projects, and activities.
  • Ensure that the in-country financial and accounting processes comply with Group accounting policies, standards, and internal controls.
  • Forecast, track, and report cash movements.
  • Ensure that the business complies with regulatory and tax authority legislation and rules.
  • Calculate business tax liabilities.
  • Support Marshall Group with the preparation of the year-end results and support annual audits.
  • With the support of external professional advisors, prepare and submit all in-country company returns including taxation returns and other regulatory returns.
  • Supervise, manage, and develop the in-country finance staff, and other assigned support staff, for all Marshall Canada entities to provide efficient in-country shared services.
  • Lead the preparation of external Annual Review Statements for Marshall Canada.
  • ·Responsible for the correct and timely submission of payroll for all Marshall Canada entities in-country, including statutory remittances and Health & Safety related remittances.
  • Respond to non-standard and ad hoc information requests from both the Canadian and International Business Lines.
  • Support the development of strategic investment opportunities for the consideration of the Marshall UK Board.
  • Complete insurance renewals and ensure compliance with Central policies as well as ensuring compliance and limited liability within Canada.
  • Ensure that processes and policies are in place to safeguard company-owned assets.
  • Lead the development and review of Corporate Governance policies in-country to ensure compliance with national legislative and regulatory requirements. Implement new processes, or process improvements, to enable the business to meet compliance standards or to improve effectiveness within the business.

Apply if you have most of the following:

  • Be a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Possess significant experience and detailed knowledge of Canadian company incorporation regulations and employee tax regulations is essential.
  • Be self-motivated; this role requires a high degree of autonomy within the business.
  • Possess significant general management experience within a multi-disciplinary environment, experience within the Aerospace and Defence industry is an asset.
  • Possess the ability, motivation, and willingness to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary and international team.
  • Be able to meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities, as set by Marshall Group and individual Business Lines.
  • Be a fully effective member of the Canadian business and work within an international matrix organization, while sustaining the integrity of professional requirements of a CPA.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively explain complex concepts to others who may not possess detailed financial or domestic business knowledge.
  • Be willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally, when required.

Must be eligible to meet requirements of export control and security regulations including Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian security clearances at the Secret level.
