Industrial Means Engineer

Job Description:

An opportunity for an Industrial Means Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space, Getafe (Madrid).  As a member of the Industrial Means team within the Manufacturing Engineering department, you will work with a team of engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build and deliver critical production assets required to manufacture and assembly launcher components or partial/entire satellites.

Accountabilities

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • To manage industrial means packages (tooling, MGSE, machines or autonomous systems) for entire programs, delivering them in time, cost and quality. The jobholder should be able to analyse project performance and to identify potential improvements.
  • The jobholder is technically responsible for the design, coordination and execution of the tooling and MGSE required for the manufacturing, machining, assembly, test, ground operations and transport of launchers and satellite products developed by Space Systems Spain.
  • To attend to customer meetings (ESA, Ariane, etc.) and to local or international suppliers, therefore occasional travels could be requested.
  • To ensure internal and external stakeholders’ needs are fulfilled, taking into consideration inputs from different departments such us Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Health and Safety, Engineering, Quality and Logistics.
  • To ensure proper adaptation to ramp-up profile and sequence of real serial parts in terms of % of operations, takt adherence target, etc.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are known and ready in advance before entry into service of the industrial means delivered to production.
  • Support maintenance and production departments with technical expertise to ensure the reliability of the means.
  • To deliver safe (safety first) and ergonomic means to production or to the customer (MGSE).
  • To support all the program activities including master and detailed planning, proposals, CapEx, budgets, etc.

Tasks

Your main tasks will include:

  • To manage call for tenders, taking into account all internal and external stakeholders, and all requirements including but not limited to technical, financial, quality, supply chain and strategic aspects.
  • To create technical specifications for different industrial means ranging from simple tools to complex autonomous systems
  • Evaluation of supplier’ proposals and down selection based in technical and economical aspects.  
  • To manage the different milestones of the means acquisition (KOM, PDR, CDR, CISS, CIPS and FA). Through design analysis, stress analysis, FMAs, verifications and tests to ensure the means are delivered with the required quality.
  • Use of CAD to create concepts, analysis for GD&T to ensure correct functionalities.
  • To manage suppliers to ensure OT, OQ, OC delivery of the assets.
  • To analyse from an H&S and ergonomics point of view the proposed solutions by the suppliers.
  • Steer trouble shooting, failure analysis and analytical thinking when required.
  • To develop brainstorming session to solve complex requirements
  • To give workshop support on the first uses of the delivered means.
  • To setup and commission new manufacturing/assembly stations ensuring all the stakeholders requirements are meet.
  • To perform modifications on exiting means taking into consideration all the required constraints and new requirements.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in engineering.
  • At least 5-10 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing and tooling area.
  • Design for manufacturing.
  • Experience on a tooling supplier is a must
  • Proven knowledge of tooling manufacturing processes
  • Tolerances analysis (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of stress analysis is a must and thermal is desirable.
  • Automation skills would be desirable.
  • Metrology skills would be desirable (CMM and Laser tracker basics). Alignment and verification principles.
  • Health and safety knowledge as well as ergonomics principles.
  • Knowledge on CE directives applicable to industrial means.
  • Project management skills
  • English and Spanish must be negotiation level.
  • High knowledge of CATIA.
  • Experience designing mass efficient structures.
  • Experience working at a production facility
  • Experience managing large assembly models and drawings.
  • Dynamic and enthusiastic, with a proactive attitude.
  • Willingness to improve processes and procedures to increase quality in our scopes.
  • Able to work under pressure and adaptability in a changing environment.

Additional requirements

  • Willing to travel nationally as necessary, up to 20% (once a week/month).
  • Willing to travel to other countries to visit customers and/or suppliers
  • Work schedule may vary depending on site operational needs which may require extended hours, and flexibility is required.
