The Equipment Engineer position provides equipment maintenance and engineering support for microelectronics operations, including MEMS engineering and research. Additionally, this role will work closely with a supportive team of tenured MEMS engineers to provide operational continuity through equipment maintenance and repair. The qualified candidate must have the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of semiconductor processing equipment within the clean room environment. This includes high levels of experience with vacuum, exhaust, electrical, electro-mechanical, RF/microwave, and gas systems typically found in a semiconductor operation. The candidate must also be able to manage budgets, generate purchase requests, and coordinate vendor support.

This role will be performed onsite at our Collins location in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of etch/CVD/sputtering semiconductor equipment. This may include dry etch/CVD vacuum systems, chemical wet etch equipment, gas supply cabinets, and metrology.

  • Willing to learn and help support other wafer fabrication areas. Existing team is well cross-trained and candidates for this role will be expected to learn and support multiple areas/MEMS tools.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activity, specifically with SPC controls of critical inputs to the manufacturing process and will work to improve up time performance on assigned systems. 

  • Ensure equipment availability by implementing corrective actions for hardware and software related equipment issues.

  • Interface with production teams and engineers to understand equipment faults and provide solutions.

  • Conduct planning and scheduling of maintenance activities, including interface with outside vendors for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair.

  • Procure spare parts and maintain inventory for production equipment. Understand spare parts requirements and proactively plan for future needs.

  • Document equipment issues, processes, and procedures.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to self-manage workflow with minimal direction.

  • Work as part of a team to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills and computer abilities.

  • Must have the ability to multitask several items/demands at a time.

  • Participate in safety and quality initiatives and investigations as required.

  • Prompt response to emergency maintenance requests.

  • Primarily supports 1st shift operations, but occasional off-hours/emergency work may be required.

  • All other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform related hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

  • Documented experience with high vacuum, RF, sputtering, and gas delivery systems.
