For a sports team to be successful, they need a strong coach. They use the preseason to understand where they are at and where they can improve. They communicate with their assistant coaches to bring unity to both sides of the ball. They predict how the game will go and position their team to be successful. If the team is struggling, they use half time to hype them up to get them back in the game. And most important, when they win, they share the success with the entire team.
So how does an Engineering Integrated Project Team (IPT) Lead compare to a strong coach? They are given a budget to set a baseline of work. They collaborate with managers to see what resources are available based on the work assigned. They communicate with customers to transfer news and identify the risk management items to better forecast potential issues. They monitor schedules to determine priorities and how one action affects another. They proactively read the room and motivate employees to expedite tasks. And when the project succeeds, everyone wins!
You might be thinking “Why on earth would I leave my current role for THIS?” Let me tell you why! You will leave your current role because this team is special.
