Job Description:
Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-focused early-career Engineer to join the Structures team supporting the production of commercial and military hot section rotating and airfoil components. HSE ESTO Structures provides an environment that fosters development of engineering fundamentals in Fracture Mechanics, Life Cycle Prediction, and Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, NX Simcenter, Abaqus) modeling, as well as good engineering judgment. Candidates will have the opportunity to build technical proficiency, decision-making ability, and gain exposure to a variety of components used in both commercial and military products.
Role classification is Hybrid. 2-3 days a week on-site presence in East Hartford, CT, USA is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural assessments of commercial & military jet engine components using state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, determination of low cycle fatigue life and residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction.
- Participate and cooperate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance and support performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Develop and support new structural analysis solutions where historical solutions are not available or applicable.
- Support proactive initiatives to improve producibility and reduce the cost of poor quality.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering and 2+ years of structural engineering experience or an advanced Degree in engineering.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Prior participation in process improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of ANSYS and other Finite Element Analysis (FEA) concepts and software.
- Familiarity with software/computer programming.
- Strong and considerate interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop effective and inclusive working relationships.
