We are currently seeking an Electronics/FPGA Engineer to join the teams within Collins Aerospace Plymouth/Bristol, UK.

Recently, Collins Aerospace was selected as the only UK supplier with a demonstrated capability of developing and manufacturing navigation grade Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) for use in future complex weapons systems as part of the United Kingdom’s Weapons Sector Research Framework (WSRF). Our IMU’s combine proprietary MEMS sensors, ASIC’s, FPGA’s, embedded software and unique architectures housed within bespoke mechanical fixtures that endure extreme environmental conditions.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Electronics/FPGA Engineer with prior relevant commercial experience to join our electronics team. The role requires a good fundamental understanding of discrete electronic design and proven experience of VHDL/Verilog firmware development. You can expect to work in a dynamic and supportive team, giving complex support to the design and development of high performance world-class IMUs and MEMS sensors.

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering or similar.

  • Full life cycle VHDL/Verilog architectural design, coding and simulation (Xilinx, Microchip, including SoC).

  • Firmware integration, with the ability to work closely with team members from other engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to understand requirements documentation and select components appropriately.

  • Analogue/Digital/Mixed-signal design and test experience.

  • Circuit simulation.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Use of E-CAD systems for schematic capture and PCB layout (Mentor/Siemens)

  • Experience of development using a formal design process DO-254, etc. 

  • OSVVM and UVVM

  • ASIC design 

  • EMC design 

  • Experience with MEMS sensors

  • Design experience of airborne applications 

  • Experience of requirements management 

  • Ability to understand and contribute across disciplines (systems, software and mechanical).
