Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Electrical Design and Analysis Engineer to join the The Flight Management Systems (FMS) engineer Team located in Mesa, AZ. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization. system verification and validation Testing to ensure designs meet operational and functional requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ability under senior supervision to do electronic flight controls design, modeling, analysis, integration and test at all levels (desktop simulation, full scale lab, piloted simulation).  Requires basic ability to understand hardware, software and their interaction.

  • Knowledge of fundamental electronic flight control design concepts (signal management, built-in-test, redundancy management, failure monitoring, etc.) and various key subsystems (e.g. vehicular modeling, actuation, hydraulics, navigation).

  • Understanding the differences between control laws and software and ability to perform design tradeoffs to determine best tools to use (e.g. Matlab / Simulink, C, Python).

  • Assisting Technical Leads in design aspects pertaining to, but not limited to, System (architecture, hardware, software) design; system requirements, control law and software design guidance, Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) readiness tasks, Operating and Support (O&S) and Accident analysis, reviewing and revising technical reports and plans, and supporting action items from meetings

  • Cross functional development and coordination with other enterprise requested design efforts (including proprietary programs).

  • Develop Hardware in the Loop Simulation (HILS) infrastructure and maintain HILS readiness, supporting EDS simulation demonstrations.

  • Supporting miscellaneous tasks/RFIs and proposals

  • Support Weapon’s Analysis (Simulation and Modelling, Safe Separation, Target Handover, Aiming Algorithms, State Estimation, etc.)

  • Collaboration and problem solving, particularly with other Program Capability Teams

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts accurately and concisely to stakeholders.

  • Software/Coding background areas: Matlab / Simulink, Git, C/C++, Python

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):  (see required education and experience for this level below)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of experience with digital flight control systems.

  • 3+ years of experience with the design, development, and integration of complex electronic systems and/or subsystems.

  • 3+ years of experience with control systems, electrical / electronic engineering design principles, tools, and processes for air vehicles, including industry and equivalent company standards and practice.

  • 3+ years of system development experience

    Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

    • Experience in development of control systems architecture, redundancy management, electronic hardware design and integration including critical aircraft sensors and actuation

    • Experience independently performing electrical / electronic engineering design tasks within a multidisciplinary team environment

    • Working knowledge of deterministic embedded real-time system development and the DO-178 process.

    • Systems thinking and ability to productively and efficiently execute in a multidisciplinary team

    • Experience in testing of complex systems in a Systems Integration Laboratory and at aircraft level flight testing

    • Experience with design and testing of embedded software and complex hardware

    • Experience with certification and / or qualification processes and procedures, including general knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirement.

    Typical Education:

    Level 3 

    Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
