The Principal Electronic Component Engineer will provide central design support to various business unit design engineering organizations, as well as support to the purchasing and operations organizations that are responsible for procurement and manufacturing of the world class electronic hardware for our businesses.
The Principal Electronic Component Engineer also provides world class failure analysis capabilities to all the business units, manufacturing, and aftermarket organizations.
This is a lead role in engineering which offers opportunities to work with multiple cross-functional team members as well as management and customers.
Hybrid:

Report onsite weekly (2-3 days per week average)

Must be a commutable distance from Windsor Locks, CT to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed.

10% domestic travel required.

This role is eligible for relocation, when qualified.
Primary Responsibilities:
-
Working with integrated product development teams to guide part selection for new product design activities
-
Working within component engineering organization to establish part selection criteria and standards to be used throughout the organization
-
Provide technical support to supply base, & commodity buyers for various aerospace electronics products (integrated circuits, magnetics, and electronic assemblies).

Creation of new component drawings for use in products

Creation of new component test plans
-
Working with procurement and design organization to resolve part shortage and part obsolescence issues

Supporting and resolving failure analysis activities on electronic components used in Aircraft Product designs and ensuring corrective action is also incorporated into component selection criteria

Performing obsolescence reviews, identification and execution of cost reduction and quality improvement initiatives

Performing component qualification and testing
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
-
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:

8 years’ experience, preferably in the development and test of electronic products

5 years Aerospace and/or Automotive Electronic Hardware Design experience preferred.

Applicant should be familiar with industry and military specifications.

Applicant should be comfortable working in a team environment with both local and remote team members.

Applicant should be comfortable in managing multiple small tasks simultaneously.

Applicant should be comfortable in quickly changing priorities and achieving results in short time durations.

Applicant should be familiar and comfortable with the operation and use of basic electronic lab test equipment.
